Climax

According to history books Climax was staked out about 1858 but it is believed that Banner School was really the beginning of the town. This was approximately the same year Oscar Coy started the mill at Twin Falls on the junction of Fall River and Otter Creek. Climax is in the Fall River Township of Greenwood County. The first man on record as owning land where Climax now stands was J.W.B. Cole who, on January 17, 1872, paid the government $200 for about 160 acres, approximately $1.25 per acre. Today approximately 64 people call Climax home, even though it is a small town it is bursting at the seams with unique history.
